The Planet Advantage -- Why People Choose Planet

Effective Cleaning Power

One of the biggest hurdles that environmentally friendly cleaning products have to battle is the stigma that "green" cleaners are not really effective. True, there are many green cleaners out there that really can't compare to leading brand names in terms of cleaning power, however Planet's line of household cleaners performs just as well as many mainstream brands. Some of our customers say even better! All the while, our products work without all the harmful effects on the environment caused by "regular" brands. You don't need to sacrifice cleaning power for environmental friendliness!

Because Planet has been continuously testing and improving our products for over 13 years now, we know what it takes to produce an effective and powerful green cleaner. As a result, Planet continues to be a leading brand of environmentally friendly household cleaners. Here is what some of our customers have to say about Planet:

"I bought a container of your liquid detergent and found that is does an excellent cleansing job. I appreciate the fact that it is environmentally safe as well as non-allergenic."

"I am so happy to have found your product, that is earth-friendly, non-perfumed, and does a great job cleaning as well!"

"Your products are not only environmentally safe, but very functional as well."

Hypo-Allergenic

More and more people are becoming allergic to the ever increasing amounts of chemicals and synthetic compounds in the environment today. Some of the most common culprits are product additives such as dyes and perfumes. For this reason, all of Planet's products are free from dyes and perfumes, making our products excellent for people with sensitive skin or allergies. We regularly hear from consumers who find that Planet is the only brand of cleaners and detergents that does not cause them allergy problems.

Certified 100% Biodegradable

Many household cleaners claim to be biodegradable, and while this may be technically true (think about it, everything degrades eventually!), in a practical sense most of these cleaners don't biodegrade very quickly. In addition, it's one thing for a product to be able to biodegrade in ideal conditions, but it's a completely different matter for a product to biodegrade in normal disposal conditions. Conditions within bodies of water where waste may end up are often anaerobic (lacking oxygen). In such conditions, waste products break down much more slowly. Often this rate is so slow that waste products actually accumulate faster than they break down, accumulating to levels that will harm aquatic life. So not only is it important for all ingredients within a product to be biodegradable, it's equally important that those ingredients be able to break down quickly in anaerobic conditions.

One way to assure that a product is truly biodegradable is to have it certified by an organization like Scientific Certification Systems (SCS). SCS is an established, respected, independent authority dedicated to objectively certifying products for various environmental achievements. As part of its certification process for biodegradability, SCS carefully reviews each ingredient within a product and certifies that it will break down into basic natural substances (carbon dioxide, water and basic minerals) and that 70% of the degradation process occurs within 28 days. All of Planet's household cleaning products are certified by SCS, making Planet the only brand generally available in supermarkets and health food stores, which is able to back up its claim of biodegradability with true independent certification.

100% Recycled Paper, 80% Post-Consumer

Nowadays, it's not unusual for many paper products to claim to be made from 100% recycled content. Planet's paper products are made from 100% recycled paper, however all of our paper products also contain a minimum of 80% post-consumer content.

Post-consumer recycled content refers to paper that has already been used in homes and offices. Without recycling, this paper would normally be discarded as waste into landfills. But by using post-consumer recycled paper, products such as Planet's paper products help reduce the amount of consumer paper waste that enters our landfills. The remaining 20% of recycled content in Planet's paper products is made from pre-consumer content. Pre-consumer recycled content refers to waste or damaged paper products from manufacturing processes. For example, recycled paper cuttings from newspaper or printing plants are consider pre-consumer content.

Chlorine Free

The process of chlorine bleaching, which for paper yields the appealing white color that we've all become accustomed to, has been well documented as being very harmful to the environment. Not only is the manufacturing of chlorine based chemicals hazardous, the resulting by-products of using these chemicals are extremely hazardous to the environment. One by-product, dioxin, is one of the most carcinogenic substances known today. As a result, non-chlorine bleaching processes having been quickly gaining favor. All of Planet's paper products are whitened using an oxygen based process.

Not Tested on Animals

Many people are very concerned about the use of animals in testing consumer products and rightly so! We here at Planet share the opinion that animals should be spared from unnecessary and cruel laboratory experiments for the sake of consumer product testing. Therefore Planet does not test any of its final products or product ingredients on animals, and we do not subcontract any animal testing of our products or product ingredients. Furthermore, Planet products also do not contain any ingredients that are derived from animal sources.
